Past

Killian was born into a well-to-do family. His father was said to be related to the patron goddess and head of their clan. He was rumored to be a second cousin or something of that sort. There were whispers that his connection to her went much closer than that. These whisperers claimed that Killian's father was actually her nephew and some were bold enough to claim that he was her son. Regardless of the truth, the mere idea that Killian being related to the clan head inspired his kidnappers to steal him.

His parents were killed during the abduction, and they were far from the only parents to die trying to prevent the kidnapping of their baby because Killian's kidnappers stole other infants from their families. These abductions were done as part of a plot to overthrow the patron goddess. Those who were apart of this ploy held no love for their clan leader. They saw her as nothing more than a tyrant to be overthrown. They knew that convincing others their own age to join them in this cause would be impossible. Most feared their goddess to much to ever truly stand against her.

Their only hope were the younger generation. So, they kidnapped a number of infants, believing that these children would not fear the patron goddess if they were raised outside her influence. They, also, believed the younger they started training these children the better chance they would have in defeating the patron goddess. They viewed these children as nothing more than tools to achieve their goals, and while they didn't outright depose of those that failed to meet their ideal they waste no more effort into sharping them.

That was the fate that Killian ended up enduring while he was within their care. They had kidnapped him, believing that his connection to the clan head meant that magic flowed strongly within him. In their mind, it was only logical that the more closely related someone was to the patron goddess the more powerful that person was, and if Killian's father was related to her in the manner that have been whispered than Killian should be very powerful. That turned out not to be the case. A fact that led them to believe that those rumors had been started by his birth family in order to make themselves more prestige.

Killian's magic wasn't just weak but non-existence. He had no magic. Upon learning this, his kidnappers left him alone to his own devices. They provided him with his basic needs, but other than that they ignored his presence. This was perfectly fine for Killian. He enjoyed the isolation. Or perhaps, he merely just got used to it? Either way, this isolation allowed him to develop his musical talent. He learned how to play various instruments, and write musical numbers. Eventually, his kidnappers learned that he wasn't as useless as they originally believed. He was weak in the ordinary fields of magic because he had the gift of prophecy.

It was extremely rare for a prophet to have any talent in other fields of magic. They saw Killian possessing this gift of prophecy as a sign that they were meant to overthrow the tyrant of a clan leader. However, they were displeased with the fact that he only received visions periodically. They decided that this needed to be changed, and tortured him in an attempt make him have visions more regularly. It worked, but at a great cost. His mind was contently being flooded with images of the future, but he saw every future image rather than just one.

It was causing him great distress. A fact that those whom had forced him to endure this torture didn't care. They only cared about the vision, and if they had to break his mind in order to ensure they never stopped than so be it. Not everyone agreed. Some claimed that knowing every possible future was just as useless as knowing none. Then there were those that cared for Killian and wished to see his suffering end. It was one of these individual that made his way to their patron goddess place of residence.

He told her everything. How this group were the ones that kidnapped all those children, why did it, and about Killian and his abilities. As soon as she received these usurpers location, she moved to shut them down. They didn't stood a chance against her. For all their preparation, she cut through them like a knife through butter and she emerged the victor in no time. She understood just how sought after someone with Killian's powers were, and decided that it would be for his best interest to keep him locked away inside a tower.

Present

Killian accepted this arrangement at first. He used the isolation as a means to gain better control over his abilities, and to keep it from overwhelming his mind. However, as the years drifted by he begun to see the tower as less of a safe refuge and more like a prison. Much to his goddess ire, he will sneak out of the tower to experience the world outside its walls. He doesn't stay away for too long. He understands that she keeps him locked away in that tower for his own protection, and he respects that desire enough not to leave the tower for anything more than a day trip here or there.

However, he knows that his time within the tower will come to an end. One day a dark haired woman will come to the tower and claim him as her own. No, that was wrong. Her ownership over him will not occur the very moment she laid eyes upon him within that tower. Killian had belonged to her long before he was born, and she was merely going to the tower to retrieve what was already hers. There is nothing that the patron goddess of his clan can do to stop it, and so he haven't told her.
